With complaints from motorists that they were being wrongly charged and were being made to run around the office of the traffic department for having asked for proof that they had violated the rules, the Hyderabad Traffic Police (HTP) has now decided to send challan along with photographic evidence of the violation.
“The proposed new system will be in place within two months where photo evidence attached to challan for the violation will be sent to the erring motorist,” CV Anand, additional commissioner of police (Traffic) told The Hans India.
Other than the hard copy sent by the post, one can also check the same online in the official website of HTP to find the e-challan status along with the photograph. And moreover, you will also be able to pay the challan amount through a link provided for online payment.
“In order to maintain transparency and remove the ambiguity in the charging process, we have been trying to organise the e-challan system since long,” said Anand.
Common traffic crimes like triple driving, signal jumping, cell phone driving, defective number plates, one-way entry etc., that are seldom recorded ‘on the spot.’ The offences are noted down and updated online besides sending a challan to erring motorists address.
The HTP chief said “Many people have demanded for photographic proof of their violations on our Facebook page and with about 4,000 to 5,000 challans being issued daily it is not possible to post individual photos due to the sheer volumes involved. Also, this task interferes with our daily chores.
So, to resolve this issue, we are planning to link the photographs as a proof of violation, right at the time of generating the challan itself, and providing the option of paying the fine online so that people can clear it easily,” he said. And for the problem of multiple challans, and data not getting updated even after the challan amount is paid at e-seva centres, M Narsing Rao, inspector, traffic (e-challan) said that earlier glitches have been overcome now, and as-on-date all pending challans against a vehicle have been updated.
“Our website is now completely updated and if a motorist pays the challans that are reflected against his vehicle number on our website, he will not be asked to pay again, he added.
